This position will be responsible for transporting clients to and from their homes to various program facilities. They will be responsible for vehicle inspection when not in transit, as well as completing client run reports on a daily basis. This person will have regular motor vehicle report inquiries, as well as maintaining a current and valid driver’s license. There may be other duties as required for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Show up to work in a timely manner
Communicate with dispatch by two-way radio and get daily patient schedule
Complete a vehicle maintenance and safety inspection pre-and post to vehicle operation
Assist clients/impaired passengers in boarding and de-boarding the vehicle
Properly secure wheelchair passengers and wheelchairs to vehicle
Drive clients to their destinations in a safe and timely manner
Report back to the dispatcher when clients have been dropped off at their destination
Report traffic delays back to supervisor
Report any incidents or accidents to the supervisor
Operate wheelchair lifts as needed
Adhere to company policies and protocol
Operate a specialized van to transport paratransit/demand response/program-based passengers
Qualifications
High School or GED certificate
Must be over 19 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license and have 3+ years of driving experience
Ability to operate specialized vans, wheelchair lifts, and safety equipment
Ability to use GPS devices
Ability to talk to and/or hear passengers and to communicate with supervisors via two-way radio
Ability to fulfill duties under moderate stress in daily activities and under considerable stress when confronted with an emergency situation
Knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations, geography, and layout of working areas including street names and medical facilities’ locations
High degree of attention required to prevent injury to others and damage to vehicle when operating on public roads
